Mrs. Sarojini Sundaresan - a brief profile
Sarojini Sundaresan is the torchbearer of the famous Alathur style, having acquired her direct tutelage for over a decade under the Late Sri Alathur Venkatesa Iyer , father and teacher of the famous Alathur Brothers. Sensing her innate aptitude for music, the Guru took special interest in imparting complete training in all aspects of performing concepts and also teaching the great art. Sarojini Sundaresan has been acclaimed by critics and popular artistes in the field as an exceptionally gifted and dedicated artiste. She commenced her career as a performer at the tender age of 14 and won the hearts of lovers of classical music with her innate skill and mastery of the art. She has performed in almost all the major cities of India - important art festivals and concert platforms such as the Music Academy , Sathguru Sangeetha Samajam, Gayana Samajam, Shanmugananda Sabha and Lalit Kala Academy . Sarojini has been appreciated for her in-depth knowledge in rhythm and intricate rendition of swara prastharas and Ragam - Talam - Pallavi in difficult talas and rare ragas. She has a wide repertoire of known and very rare kritis of the popular composers the Trinities, Purandara Dasa, Vedanayagam Pillai, Ramalinga Swamigal and not - too - often heard composers such as Meesu Krishna Iyer and others. Her guru who set to tune the kritis of Meesu Krishna Iyer with intricate chittaswaras, bestowed on her the rare privilege of being the only student to have mastered all his compositions. Sarojini has given lecture demonstrations on these rare kritis on numerous occasions in various commendable gatherings such as the Indian Fine Arts and others. Even beyond her motherland Sarojini continues her musical journey in the UK , where she lives with her accountant husband. She has given innumerable concerts and lecture demonstrations in the UK .
