Dr. Priya Krishnamoorthy, born on 21st January 1977 in Kottayam Kerala as the daughter of renowned carnatic music singer, Smt. Vaikom B. Rajammal, B High artist AIR Thiruvananthapuram and Sri.V.K. Money Iyer is truly a promising voice of tomorrow in the field of carnatic music.

Dr. Priya learned the primary lessons of music from her mother and first guru Smt. Vaikom B Rajammal. She marked her name in the realm of music with other famous carnatic singers at an early age with many of her achievements in the field. She secured the first prize for classical music in the state school youth festival in the years 1989 - 90 and 1990 -91. Due to her ardent love for music she opted music as her optional subect for her graduation and post graduation. She passed MA with 2nd rank from Women's College Thiruvananthapuram. She performed numerous music concerts in various Sangeetha Sabhas in and outside Kerala and also abroad. Dr. Priya like her mother is also a B High artist of all India Radio Thiruvananthapuram. She enriched her knowledge in music under the guidance of many exponents in music like late Gayakaratnam Prof. Vechoor Harihara Subramony Iyer, her uncle. Prof. Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma, Retd. Principal, SST College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram and Prof. Seetha Lakshmi, SST College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram.

To enrich her knowledge and to pass it on to the future generations, Dr. Priya has accomplished an extensive research on the raga 'sankarabharanam'. Her research consists of more than 40 rare krithis in the raga Sankarabharanam. The research was duly acknowledged by The University of Calicut and awarded her the Ph.D for the same.
